Today's growing demand for quality health care makes a career as a medical assistant a strong choice. In fact, medical assistant is predicted to be one of the fastest-growing occupations through the year 2018.*

Our medical assistant program prepares you to become a key member of a medical team. You can train to assist physicians in health care management and provide medical services. By gaining administrative and clinical skills through your education, you could increase your chances of choosing where you would like to work. Your choices may include working with physicians in private practices, clinics, health maintenance organizations, nursing homes, and hospitals.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are awarded an associate of science degree.

Program Outcomes

The medical assistant program is designed to prepare graduates to meet the following outcomes:

  • Demonstrate competencies in all aspects of medical assisting clinical practice
  • Exhibit proficiency in the clerical and administrative functions required of a medical assistant
  • Employ professional, ethical, and legal standards in health care practice
  • Integrate knowledge from behavioral and biological sciences as a basis for allied health practices
  • Embody professional behaviors as defined by the discipline of allied health

Note: Students are required to purchase lab coats, stethoscopes, a blood pressure cuff, and identification pins prior to
entering the clinical procedures.

Note: Students are required to have the hepatitis B series vaccination, as well as MMR, two-step TB, and varicella zoster documentation, a physical exam, and a tetanus shot within the last 10 years before doing the 160-hour externship.

Note:  Students are required to complete CPR/First Aid/AED Training before beginning their externship.
