Academic Policies

Changes in Programs or Policies

The College has the right, at its discretion, to make reasonable changes in program content, materials, schedules, course sequences in programs, or locations, etc. in the interest of improving the student’s education, or where deemed necessary due to industry changes, academic scheduling, or professional requirements.

The College is required to make changes in programs or policies when ongoing federal, state, or accrediting changes affect students currently in attendance.

Leave of Absence

In accordance with Title IX, Hesser College will permit a leave of absence due to circumstances outlined in the leave of absence policy. Students wishing to take a leave of absence under this provision must provide documentation from a physician confirming medical necessity for the leave. Upon return, the student will be reinstated with the same academic status as when the student began the leave of absence, dependent on availability of the necessary courses for the student's program of study. Refer to the Catalog for more information.

Course and Program Changes

Reasonable efforts are made to direct students to the program of study best suited to their individual goals and abilities. However, students may request a change of major by completing the required Student Status Change or Request form. Program transfers must be approved by both a Financial Aid Officer and the Academic Advisor. Refer to the Catalog for more information.

Externship, Clinical, and Fieldwork

The College offers externship, clinical, and fieldwork opportunities without compensation for students in several programs. Students are supervised by professionals on site and are also required to maintain close contact with their program advisor, since academic credits are earned for such experiences. The College maintains affiliation agreements with a variety of facilities, and students are encouraged to work with their advisors to find appropriate sites. Refer to the Catalog for more information.

Transcripts and Transfer of Credit to Other Schools

Current or former students may request one free copy of their official transcript by submitting a written request to the College with the name and address where the transcript will be mailed. A fee will be charged for additional copies and must be paid in advance before they are processed. Refer to the Catalog for more information.

Academic Progress

Satisfactory academic progress standards apply to all students at the College. All students will be evaluated for satisfactory academic progress at specific periods of time. Refer to the Catalog for more information.

Academic Warning and Probation

Students not maintaining a 2.0 CGPA will be placed on academic warning. Students placed on academic warning will be notified in writing. Students placed on probation will be notified in writing and will receive academic advising to assist them in grade improvement. Read more...

Attendance and Withdrawl Policies

The College emphasizes the need for all students to attend classes on a regular and consistent basis in order to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to compete in the highly competitive labor market.
